Luton furious at TTFF over Edwards
LONDON: English Championship club Luton Town are furious at the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation who they say ordered midfielder Carlos Edwards to return home for celebrations after beating Bahrain 1-0 in the World Cup play off last Wednesday. As a result, Edwards returned to the East England club late and missed the club’s fixture at Norwich City, which they lost 2-0. "We will complain to the Trinidad and Tobago FA, the English FA and anyone else we can think of complaining to," Newell told the Football website. "I was not happy that Carlos was taken away for a game and then for a party. He should have flown straight back here from Bahrain." But Newell, who last week congratulated TT on qualifying for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, exonerated Edwards of blame. "It’s not Carlos’ fault. He was instructed to go back to Trinidad and meet the president," Newell argued. While Edwards flew to Trinidad and Tobago for the massive victory celebrations, other players like captain Dwight Yorke and Russell Latapy returned to their respective clubs to honour weekend fixtures. Edwards, 27, joined Luton from League One Welsh side Wrexham during the summer and has become a key component in the team’s midfield.
