Salandy fight in Rhode Island scrapped

GISELLE "MAGIC" Salandy will have to wait for another chance to challenge Jaime "The Hurricane" Clampitt for her IWBF world lightweight title belt.

Clampitt, from Rhode Island, United States, injured her right hand while sparring last week.

Ironically, Clampitt sustained an injury to her left wrist but the 29-year-old noted, in an interview on the website www.womenboxing.com, "I know medically speaking it may not have been the best move, but I am a fighter and I want to fight."

The bout was scheduled to take place in Rhode Island Convention Centre today with the 19-year-old Salandy, the reigning WIBA Iberian-American champ, possessing a record of 10-0 with four knockouts.
