Fatima advance to final

FATIMA edged Naparima 4-3 in a tense penalty shootout at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella yesterday to advance to the RBTT Intercol final.

The final will be held on Saturday, from 4.30 pm, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.

Naps, the Big five champs, got the opening goal in the 81st courtesy Jason Joseph, to the delight of their vociferous supporters.

But Fatima showed that they were not to be undone as another Joseph, Sherron, got the equaliser for the visitors in the 89th.

After 20 minutes (according to tournament rules) of sudden-death injury time failed to break the deadlock, kicks-from-the-penalty-spot were required to determine who will face the "Green Machine" on Saturday.

With four kicks apiece from the spot Naps, who took the first attempt, got goals from Adisa Connell and Javed Mohammed, while Kevin De Verteuil (second) and captain Sherick Hillaire (fourth) missed their efforts.

Conversely, Marvin James, Emmanuel Joseph and Makesi Lewis converted Fatima’s first three kicks but Elijah Belgrave missed his team’s fourth.

With Fatima now leading 3-2, Dinaka Jindar kept Naps in the hunt when he scored his team’s fifth.

But Machel James found the back of the net to seal Fatima’s place in the final.
