Lara is not finished says Bernard Julien

DESPITE Brian Lara’s current slump in form, ex-West Indies all-rounder Bernard Julien says the batting star still has about two years of international cricket left in him.

"I still think Lara can still play for a year or two," Julien told TV 6 Sports recently." He’s past his best. and with the really quick bowlers, he’s going to get a bit of trouble with them."

He added, "But the fact that it is over (for Lara), it’s not like that at all. He still has a couple of years left in him."

Lara has struggled against Australia in the current Test series, producing scores of 30, 14, 13 and 45 in his four innings so far.

However, the left handed Lara has been the victim of several dubious umpiring decisions and Julien said this had not helped the player’s form or the team’s morale.

"From ever since, Lara’s decisions Down Under have been questionable (and) this has been happening constantly," Julien continued.

"A lot of times you would have seen a different complexion of the game if he hadn’t been given out and this has happened time and time again."

He added, "It has come at vital times, especially when we are not doing well.

Lara doesn’t have the form and he has been fighting to get form, it hasn’t helped him and it hasn’t helped us."

Julien represented the West Indies between 1973 and 1977, scoring 866 runs and taking 50 wickets in 24 Tests.
