Beenhakker here for contract talks
TRINIDAD and Tobago football team coach Leo Beenhakker returned to Trinidad on Thursday to negotiate a new contract for himself, as well as fellow Dutchmen — assistants Whim Rijsbergen and Theo De Jong. The contracts of the technical staff ended on November 16, after Trinidad and Tobago’s qualification for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. The 63-year-old Beenhakker was expected to have lengthy discussions with Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) special adviser Jack Warner yesterday to determine a new deal which will last until the team’s participation in Germany. Team manager Bruce Aanensen, speaking to WMJX 100.5 FM, said yesterday: "Once we had qualified, Leo, Whim and Theo will continue to be part of the team because they have been very instrumental in our success to-date. "And it will be foolish of (the TTFF) not to renew the contracts," Aanensen continued. "I think Jack has made it pretty clear that the contracts would be renewed, even if he had to pay them himself." Earlier this week Warner, during a newscast on CNC Channel 3, commented: "When he leaves here on Saturday, he’ll leave with a contract. "Whether it is long-term or short-term, I can’t say," Warner added. "What I know is he’ll leave on Saturday with a contract that takes us to Germany."
