Lynch and baby to get house for Christmas

THE days when the backseat of a car sufficed as a bed for Valene Lynch and her nine-month-old daughter, are numbered.

Yesterday, volunteers were busy clearing a plot of land for the construction of a wooden shack which Lynch so desperately needs.

Lynch and her nine-month-old baby shot into the limelight this week when Newsday highlighted their living arrangement — in a car parked under a mango tree on Enid Street, Marabella.

A neglected child since the death of her mother, Lynch knocked from "pillar to post."

Lynch said when she gave birth to baby Nyomi, she was again neglected and ended up sleeping in the car.

Yesterday, Palo Seco Agricultural Enterprises Ltd (PSAEL) chairman Francis Bertrand vowed to provide Lynch with a place to stay, with real pillars and posts.

PSAEL’s Vidya Deokiesingh and other members of the organisation visited Lynch yesterday. Bertrand said a plot of land near the parked vehicle had been earmarked for the construction of a home for the woman and her child. A gang of URP workers cleared the proposed site for the construction on a small parcel of land reportedly owned by Petrotrin. It has been reported that the company has agreed to release it for the construction of Lynch’s house.

Meanwhile, Bertrand said PSAEL plans to provide building materials for the construction of the house, and is calling on members of the public to assist.

Also visiting Lynch yesterday was National Family Services official, Angela Lasley Mendoza, who interviewed Lynch.

Local Government Councillor for the district (Marabella West) Jennifer Marryshow, also turned up for a visit. Yesterday, Lynch began to pack her belongings inside the car, in anticipation of spending the weekend on a soft mattress. Other good samaritans have also lodged donations at Newsday’s offices for Lynch. Lynch said she is grateful to everyone who is helping her. "Things look like they looking up for Christmas," a smiling Lynch said.
