Minister, TTFF agree on plan
SPORT and Youth Affairs Minister Roger Boynes and Special Adviser to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation Jack Warner have agreed on a plan to project the Warriors at World Cup in Germany next year. Boynes met with a TT Football Federation delegation led by Warner on Thursday, and among their discussions were the preparation of the Warriors, marketing the team nationally, regionally and internationally and co-operation between the Local Organising Committee and government. Minister Boynes and his team which comprised his Permanent Secretary Lynette Felix-Henry, Deputy PS Ashwin Creed and senior Planning Officer/Communications Manager Andre Laveau decided on a plan to market the Warriors and also project the image of Trinidad and Tobago globally. With Warner in the TTFF team were president Oliver Camps and secretary Richard Groden. The minister agreed with Warner no effort will be spared to ensure all resources available to them would be used to prepare the Warriors "to compete at its optimum in World Cup 2006." According to a news release issued by the ministry yesterday, Minister Boynes said he will ensure officials of his ministry join with the TTFF to meet a foreign team of experienced marketing consultants to be held here on December 1, to arrive at the best way forward for projecting the country in Germany and globally would be undertaken. Trinidad and Tobago qualified for the World Cup in Germany, beating Bahrain 1-0 in Manama, Bahrain, after the teams drew 1-1 here in the first-leg play-off match. Following their historic feat on November 16, there was dancing in the streets and honking of car horns throughout the country, and government declared the next day, November 17 a Public Holiday. Members of the Warriors team returning home were given a VIP welcome by Prime Minister Patrick Manning and members of his Cabinet.
