Bravo aims to be world’s best
ADELAIDE: West Indies star Dwayne Bravo has set his sights on being among the world’s top all-rounders. But the 22-year-old stopped short of a comparison with Caribbean legend Sir Garfield Sobers. "I don’t think I or any all-rounder could be classed as good as Sir Gary but I would love to one day be in his shoes," Bravo said. "I want to be mentioned as among the best all-rounders who have ever played the game." The International Cricket Council’s LG Player Rankings only name the top five all-rounders, with Bravo yet to feature. But he staked a claim with a century in the second Test against Australia and a six-wicket haul in the third match in Adelaide yesterday, including three wickets in 17 balls. In just his ninth Test, he also took a brilliant return catch to dismiss Shane Warne for a duck. "Taking that catch to get my fifth wicket I couldn’t think of a better way," said the Trinidadian. "(Yesterday) morning I got up feeling something spectacular was going to happen and I got the ball to do what I wanted to get six wickets against the best team in the world." Bravo grew up watching Brian Lara, a family friend who lives within walking distance in Santa Cruz. "I was five or six when I met Brian. My dad and his dad used to work together and also played cricket together," he said. "My dad used to bowl to him and I would heckle but we all got along well. "The team now depends on Brian a lot but there’s other guys in the team looking to do their best."
