Jeffers misses 100 in rain-hit match

KINGSTON: Opening batsman Shane Jeffers fell 12 short of a hundred for the Leeward Islands and rain halted their keen battle against title-holders Jamaica on the third day of their first round Carib Beer Series game at Kensington Park yesterday.

Trailing Jamaica by 27 runs on first innings, the Leewards had reached 215 for eight in their second innings when rain aborted play shortly after tea.

Carl Simon (24) and Alderman Lesmond (three) are the not out batsmen for the Leewards, who will enter today’s final day 188 runs ahead with two wickets standing.

From an overnight 46 for one, the visiting Leewards adopted a watchful approach but suffered cruel blow when their top batsman Runako Morton was run-out for 14. (CMC).
