Israel Khan jailed
ISRAEL KHAN was yesterday jailed in the Rio Claro Magistrates’ Court — to serve 15 months hard labour — for maliciously wounding his neighbour. Pleading guilty to the charge, Khan, 30, of Eclesville, Rio Claro, appeared before Magistrate Omar Jokhan in the Rio Claro Magistrates’ Court, charged with chopping Samdath Jagroop, 30. Jokhan heard from Sgt Gumia, the court’s police prosecutor, that Khan went to Jagroop’s home at about 11 pm on Sunday. Brandishing a cutlass and accusing Jagroop of spreading rumours about him, Khan chopped Jagroop on the back of the head and right forearm. Jagroop was taken to the Mayaro District Health Facility where he was treated and discharged. Jokhan passed the sentence on Khan after commenting that Jagroop could have been killed. PC Rennie Lakhan of the Rio Claro Police Station laid the charge.
