Aussies coach to assist Yorke


WORLD CUP bound Australia have offered to help Trinidad and Tobago’s Dwight Yorke for next year’s World Cup in Germany.


In a report that emanated from the website, the Australian assistant football coach Graham Arnold said he wanted to organise a local-based squad of World Cup hopefuls — which included Yorke, to train and play a series of matches against State A-League Clubs.


According to Arnold, the matches will be arranged once the — who also triumphed in a last ditch play-off to secure a berth in the World Cup, are not drawn in the same group with the Soca Warriors for next year’s tourney.


The World Cup draw is scheduled for December 9 in Leipzig, Zurich Switzerland and from it the 32 teams expected to face-off in the tournament will know their fate.


FIFA - the world governing body for football has also set three dates from which all participating nations will have their players back for friendly matches, and they are February 8, March 29 and June 2. Jack Austin Warner, the FIFA vice president and Special Adviser to the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) has said this country will be featured in two high profile international friendly matches on the first two dates — the second is expected to be a clash with World Champions Brazil at the Hasely Crawford Stadium (March 29).


Arnold expresssed the view that the matches will be a way of repaying the Trinidad and Tobago captain for his contribution to the rising standard in the Australian First Division.


Arnold said, "Dwight’s been great for the A-League. He has given the competition a high profile."


Arnold added further that, " Yorke showed just what a true professional he is when he shipped Trinidad and Tobago’s celebrations after they beat Bahrain and qualified for their first World Cup, to come straight home and play for Sydney FC."
