Kidnap kingpin held by cops
Two high-profile suspects are being held at the Barataria Police Station until senior officers arrive to question them in connection with a number of kidnappings. The suspects, from the Santa Cruz area, were held in an exercise on Tuesday, and were put on ID parade yesterday. The men were held under a great deal of secrecy from Tuesday after a 24-hour manhunt in the Santa Cruz community and environs. The two men are suspects in the kidnapping of Samdaye Rampersad from Irvin Street in San Juan. Rampersad, 45, was taken from her Irwin Street mini-mart on Saturday November 26. While she was in front of the shop speaking with a friend, three armed men alighted from a Nissan B-15. A kicking and screaming Rampersad was forced into the vehicle. Family members are hoping that Rampersad will be released by her kidnappers. She is a diabetic who also has asthma. The men have not yet been charged and will be held in custody until today. Fifty-four persons have been kidnapped during the year. The Anti-Kidnapping Squad is continuing investigations.
