A WEBSITE has been launched for the Trinidad and Tobago football team, so fans at home can keep abreast of the squad as they prepare for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. The site, which was designed by the Ministry of Tourism, is called www.socawarriorstt.com.

Speaking at the launch at Crowne Plaza Hotel yesterday, Dr James Hepple director at the Tourism Ministry, commented, "it is something which I think is destiny for Trinidad and Tobago, to bring ourselves to the attention of (an) estimated two billion people." Hepple continued, "this is a global audience and we intend to bring Trinidad and Tobago to that audience. "We’re so gratified that we’ve had the opportunity of working with (Jack) Warner and we’ve established a joint committee, between the Ministry of Tourism, the Tourism Development Company, the Ministry of Sport, the Tobago House of Assembly and the TTFF (Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation)," added the Director of Tourism. Hepple is hopeful that the site can be a means of marketing the country to the wider world.

"Together we intend to capitalise on this opportunity and promote Trinidad and Tobago worldwide to ensure that as many people as possible would understand what (we) have to offer, the unique experiences that they can have when they visit us," he said. With the World Cup draw scheduled to take place on December 9 in Leipzig, Germany, Hepple stressed that, with the Trinidad and Tobago renowned for its Carnival, "the attention of the world would be upon us.

"And it is for us to capitalise on that opportunity," he added. Concerning the committee, Hepple declared that it "would also be embarking upon a marketing strategy to really be proactive and put Trinidad and Tobago on the map, capitalising upon the attention that we would be receiving. "There would be public relations activities, there will be online marketing activities, all of which are designed to draw attention to Trinidad and Tobago," he ended.
