Deportee shot dead
A DEPORTEE was executed by a lone gunman who pumped more than 13 bullets into his body at a bar at Waterloo Road, Carapichaima, on Friday night. Allen Walker, 40, a Compac Disc salesman, was described by police as a notorious character. Investigators believe that his murder may be linked to several crimes in the Central Division. Walker, police said, was a suspect in the murder of “PH” driver Charran Ramlogan, who was hijacked and shot dead at Edinburgh Village, Chaguanas, earlier this year. It was around 10.45 pm on Friday that Walker and another man were walking along Waterloo Road towards his (Walker’s) home, which was a short distance away.
Reports stated that Walker was accosted by a lone gunman who fired a hail of bullets after him. Walker was shot but, according to the report, he tried to get away by running into the nearby bar. However, police said the gunman did not relent and continued to shoot while pursuing Walker. The assailant, according to the report, pumped several more bullets into Walker’s body. Eyewitnesses told police the gunman escaped on foot. A district medical officer viewed the body and ordered its removal to the Forensic Sciences Centre where an autopsy is expected to be performed tomorrow.
Police were yesterday searching for Walker’s friend who ran off when the shooting started. Walker was involved in a common-law-relationship and had two daughters. When Sunday Newsday visited the crime scene yesterday the bar was closed and relatives refused to be interviewed. Visiting the scene was a party of policemen from the Homicide Bureau and Freeport CID led by Snr Supt Mayers and ASP Dhilpaul.
