Schools football team for Jamaica

AN 18-member 2005 Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) All-Star team will leave for Jamaica today where they will play two matches against a Jamaica XI on Tuesday and Thursday. No members of the Intercol champs Fatima were included in the squad but goalkeeper Leston Shade and defender Kevin De Verteuil of “Big 5” winners Naparima have been included in the 18. Shade and Princes Town’s Rondell Renwick are the two goalies in the team, while De Verteuil, Jamal Wiggins (Carapichaima), Corneal Thomas (Mucurapo), Akeil Harley (San Juan), Travis Joseph (Vessigny) and Gerron McKnight (Princes Town) are the defenders named.


Trinidad and Tobago Under-17 players Silas Spann (St Benedict’s) and Khaleem Hyland (Mucurapo) will be joined in the midfield by Richard Roy (Mucurapo), Elton John (St Augustine), Shevon Frederick (Fyzabad) and Kyle Blackman (Vessigny) while the four strikers in the fold are Elijah Manners (San Juan), Kerron Smith (Carapichaima) and the St Anthony’s pair of Akil De Freitas and national Under-17 Lester Peltier. Mucurapo coach, former national defender Selris Figaro, has been appointed coach of the squad, with Glenford Thomas (Presentation) and Howard Spencer (Vessigny) as his assistants. Lawrence Seepersad of Carapichaima will serve as the manager, with SSFL president Ewing Davis as the chef-de-mission and the League’s vice-president Anthony Creed as the physio.
