Abducted woman’s slipper found in forest

A large contingent of police and soldiers combing the Toco forest in search of kidnap victim Jade Solis, the 21-year-old granddaughter of businessman Eric Solis, has found one side of a slipper belonging to the abducted woman. The slipper was found late Sunday afternoon.

Police and soldiers have set up a temporary base in Toco as the search for Solis continues.

Investigators believe that the woman, who is the daughter of Gregory Solis, is still alive and is being kept in the Toco forest.

Yesterday, police officers sought the assistance of a group of persons known as the "Earth People" to assist them in finding Solis.

The Earth People reside in communities located deep inside the Toco Forest, and live off the Earth. Solis’ worried relatives and friends gathered in Toco yesterday hoping and praying that she is found.

Solis, who was part of a group having dinner at a family beachhouse at Galera, was snatched from the house on Saturday night, and bundled into a car belonging to one of her relatives.

Her relatives were robbed of cash, jewelry and cellphones. The car used to abduct Solis has not yet been found.

The kidnapped woman’s father, Gregory Solis, who is reported to be ailing, was in a state of shock over the abduction.

Relatives said yesterday that they were too traumatised to be interviewed, and that their major concern is finding solis and ensuring that she is back home, safe and sound.

On Sunday, a party of officers from the Special Anti-crime Unit of Trinidad and Tobago, the Eastern Division Task Force and soldiers combed the Toco forest in search of Solis.

The search continued yesterday with several aerial searches.

A suspect who was detained on Sunday was being quizzed up to late yesterday. That man is from the Toco area.

The man has already given useful information to the police.

Investigators told Newsday that they believed that robbery was the motive, and Solis was seized on the spur of the moment and not for ransom. There had been no demands for ransom up to yesterday.

Solis is the granddaughter of Eric Solis, who owns a stationery and office equipment business place as well as Eric Solis Marketing Ltd.
