Hairdresser on coke charge denied bail

A HAIRDRESSER yesterday appeared before a San Fernando magistrate charged with trafficking in 1.4 kilogrammes of cocaine. The charge alleged that Abigail Friday-Teller allegedly had the cocaine in 100 capsules in a cereal box.

Friday-Teller, 36, originally of Corinth Settlement, Ste Madeleine, near San Fernando, was denied bail and remanded into custody by Magistrate Amina Deonarinesingh in the Second Magistrates’ Court.

Deonarinesingh remanded Friday-Teller into custody on the recommendation of police prosecutor Sgt Joey Samaroo. The prosecutor told the magistrate that a trace needed to be conducted of the accused.

The prosecution’s exhibit, which comprised 107 capsules containing the powdered cocaine, was placed before the court by Sgt Samaroo.

The capsules, about an inch long, were taped in plastic and electrical tape. A cereal box and a black and red knapsack were also revealed.

Deonarinesingh instructed the prosecution to count each capsule to ensure that the total was 107.

Samaroo also placed Friday-Teller’s passport, which was seized by police on her arrest, before the court. Attorney Ian Gray, who represented the hairdresser, questioned the seizure of the passport. Sgt Samaroo replied that it would form part of the prosecution’s case.

Friday-Teller was arrested last Friday, when police intercepted a car at Albert Street, Marabella. She will reappear in court this morning.
