TT settle for draw against Leewards

THE VALLEY: A stubborn third-wicket partnership between skipper Sylvester Joseph and Austin Richard Jnr, held Trinidad and Tobago at bay and gave Leeward Islands a draw in their second round Carib Beer Series match at the Ronald Webster Park yesterday.

The Islanders were chasing a deficit of 103 and had capitulated to 47 for two wickets when Joseph joined young Austin Richards Jnr and they batted their team to safety when play was called off.

At the end, Leeward Islands were on 131 for three, just 28 runs ahead in the match which lost its entire first day to rain.

Earlier, Trinidad and Tobago resuming on 240 for seven added another 34 runs for their remaining three wickets were dismissed for 274.

Wilden Cornwall took all three wickets to take his innings haul to five for 54.

When the Islanders batted a second time they soon ran into some early trouble and were tottering before the Richards Jnr-Joseph partnership held them together again.

Richards Jnr hit a determined 61, while West Indies batsman Joseph was unbeaten on 54 at the close.

Summarised scores:

LEEWARD ISLANDS 171 and 131/3 - A Richards Jnr 61, S. Joseph 54 not out vs TRINIDAD & TOBAGO 274 - Daren Ganga 63, Richard Kelly 62, Gibran Mohammed 39, Rayad Emrit 20, Tishan Maraj 20, W Cornwall 5/54, Omari Banks 3/83).
