Angostura salute Lara’s record
ANGOSTURA LIMITED have saluted world record holder Brian Lara for surpassing Allan Border as Test cricket’s highest aggregate scorer. Les Page, an Angostura representative based in Australia, met with Lara and relayed the firm’s congratulations while participating in celebrations at Adelaide’s Hyatt Regency Hotel. Lara, who was employed at Angostura’s head office on the Eastern Main Road, Laventille during the early 1990s, was presented with Calloway Golf Clubs and a bag by Page. Following the Test series, Lara participated in a Prime Minister’s Golf tournament in Canberra, Australia and also competed in an event on the Royal Canberra course. Later, he played a round with former Australian tennis star Patrick Rafter and, during the weekend, witnessed an Australian A-League contest between Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory, with close friend and TT captain Dwight Yorke wearing the skipper’s armband for Sydney. The 36-year-old batting maestro was certainly a busy man "Down Under", as Roger and Robyn Phillips, a Trinidadian duo resident in Melbourne, hosted a celebration party in Lara’s honour while he also had an interview with Channel 7. And Lara was expected to take part in the Australian Masters Golf Pro-Am tournament yesterday with his friend, Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne.
