Guards robbed and chopped

A security guard who was robbed of cash, cell phones and other personal effects was chopped repeatedly after he was mistaken for a bandit in Boissiere Village, Maraval, early yesterday.

Police reports revealed that a group of men went to Ellerslie Plaza at 3 am, where they held up three guards and robbed them of cash and other valuables.

Shortly after, Securicor Security van driver Dave Joseph pulled up in front of Scotiabank at Ellerslie Plaza, and the group of bandits pounced on him, believing that Joseph was transporting cash. He was also robbed by the group of men who ordered him to run.

Joseph ran towards Boissiere Village where he was met by a group of villagers who mistook him for a bandit. He was then chopped several times.

Joseph managed to convince one villager that he was not a bandit, and officers of the St Clair Police Station were contacted.

They took the bleeding guard to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was treated and warded.

Police searched for the bandits without success..

PC Charles of the St Clair CID is investigating.
