PATT hopeful of hauliers’ resolution
PORT AUTHORITY of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT) general manager Christopher Mendes expressed optimism that hauliers will resume full duties at the Port-of-Spain port following a meeting scheduled for 10 am today at the port. Over the last two days, hauliers have been bringing empty containers and full containers for export to the PoS Port but have refused to remove fully loaded containers for import from the port. TT Hauliers Association general secretary Curtis Seepersad told Newsday that the hauliers are continuing their action at the port and are asking the PATT to pay them a delay surcharge when they are forced to remain on the port longer than the stipulated time for doing so. Seepersad said the hauliers had submitted their proposals to resolve the situation at the PoS port to the PATT and both sides will meet today to continue discussions to resolve the situation. Mendes confirmed today’s meeting and said he was optimistic that the situation would be resolved. He said the port’s operations continued normally yesterday, save for the removal of import containers by the majority of hauliers. Mendes added that a few hauliers did move some import containers off the port. The PATT general manager declined to say if Works and Transport Minister Colm Imbert had been fully briefed on the situation with the hauliers or given any directives as to how to resolve the matter.
