Digicel Rejects TSTT Claim of Network Interference
New cellular company, Digicel, yesterday denied claims by TSTT that it was responsible for customers inability to connect to the TSTT network over the last few days (an allegation that was lodged in a paid advertisement by TSTT on November 9). In a press statement yesterday, Digicel said it would have been more than willing to assist TSTT in investigating the issue at a much earlier date if it had been notified before. Digicel claims that its technical team has looked into the matter and concluded that the fault may lie in the way TSTT has configured its handset. Speaking on behalf of the company, Digicel’s CEO Stephen Brewer said, "TSTT is quick to pass the blame. Instead, TSTT should take the time to investigate the issue internally and immediately rectify the problems in the best interest of their customers." He said Digicel has been conducting tests on its network, using only the frequencies that were allocated to them and that are completely separate from those used by TSTT. He concluded, "Digicel’s network is ready to go and we are delighted with the results of ongoing network testing as the coverage, signal strength, call quality and clarity are excellent. We look forward to introducing its superior mobile phone service into the market as soon as TSTT completes interconnection. Digicel is once again calling on Public Administration Minister Dr Lenny Saith to intervene in the matter to ensure that the people of TT can finally have a choice."
