Koury murder inquiry adjourned again
Hearing of the preliminary inquiry into the murder of chemical engineer, Dr Eddie Koury, was yesterday adjourned as only one of the five accused was brought to court. Thirty-two-year-old former police officer, Robert Franklyn, of Febeau Village, Laventille, was the only one in the prisoners’ dock yesterday when the matter was called by Magistrate Indra Ramoo-Haynes in the Tunapuna First Court. Franklyn’s co-accused — Kaleb Neville-Donaldson of Rockley Vale, Tobago; Sean James of Kelly Street, Tunapuna; Jerome Murray of Mason Hall, Tobago; and Terry Moore, also of Tobago — were all taken to the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court where their matter for the kidnapping of Koury and 55-year-old taxi driver, Ramsaran Samlall, is being heard. Attorney Owen Hinds Jr and Wendy Dougdeen-Bally appeared yesterday for Senior Counsel Pamela Elder, who represents Donaldson. State attorney Brent Winter was represented by attorney Shoba Jamuna, who said her colleague was dealing with another matter in Tobago. Donaldson’s attorneys asked if a date could be fixed for the start of the trial, but Ramoo-Haynes opted to set a date for mention only, noting that the court would be occupied for some time. "I prefer to set a date for mention to see how things pan out," said Ramoo-Haynes. Koury was snatched from his workplace in Macoya on September 23 by a group of armed men. His headless body was found a few days later. After investigations, five men were charged with the murder by Sgt Stephen Ramsubhag. Hearing resumes on December 15.
