TWO murders, seven fatalities and one mystery shooting marred the weekend.

Atiba Flanders, 23, of Savannah Terrace, Bagatelle, Diego Martin, and Richard Mauge, 39, alias ‘Beak’ of LP 18, Mon Repos Road, Morvant yesterday became the nation’s latest murder victims, while TT Regiment Corporal Marvin Solomon,31, became another road fatality. His death follows five others; along the Mosquito Creek on Saturday morning, and another last night on the Beetham Highway.

According to reports, around 8.30 pm on Saturday, residents at Mahogany Terrace, Bagatelle, responded to gunshots they heard in the street.

When they investigated they found the body of murder suspect Atiba Flanders lying in a pool of blood with bullet wounds to the back of his head.

When Newsday visited the scene at the Savannah Terrace home of Flanders friends and relatives refused to comment. Police said that they have several reports of his suspected involvement in murders in the area and believe the shooting was related.

Visiting the scene were Insps. Lezama, Smith, Sgt Pesmell; and Cpl Francis of the Homicide Bureau who is continuing inquiries.

In an unrelated matter, PH driver Richard Mauge, aka Richard Perpignac alias ‘Beak’ returned to his Mon Repos home around 11.30 pm, parked his car in front of his home and walked nearby where he was seen smoking and speaking to two men. His common-law wife Dianne Victor looked out but saw nothing. Around 4 am yesterday a neighbour called out to her and asked her for her husband.

She said he came home with his car but did not come inside.

The frightened woman was directed a short distance away, where the father of six was found dead lying face down with a bullet wound to the back of his head. The children are ages one, seven eight, ten, 11 and 13. Police visited the scene and seized three shells. Money, a car tape deck and other items were reported missing.

When Newsday visited the Mon Repos house, his wife Victor in tears, called for the killers to be found and brought to justice.

She gave no reason for the killing except "is envy they envy and jealous of him because of what he has achieved."

"Right now I do not know what to do because Richard provided everything for me.

I would probably have to get a job now and go to work," she cried. Investigations revealed that Mauge had several charges for possession of narcotics.

Police believe the killing was drug related. Visiting the scene were Supt Trim, Insp Hilaire, Cpl Vidale, and Cpl Parks of the Homicide Bureau who is continuing inquiries.
