Under-13 cricketers beaten again

BRIDGETOWN: Good bowling, backed again by quality fielding, saw Barbados win the second match of the three-match Under-13 limited overs cricket series against Trinidad and Tobago for the Malcolm Marshall Memorial Trophy yesterday.

After a six-wicket win on Saturday, the Bajans won by eight wickets yesterday at the Dover Cricket Club, on the island’s south coast, for a winning 2-0 lead in the series.

Barbados dismissed the visitors for 82 in 37 overs and then raced to 86 for two in the 15th over.

Barbados allrounder, Kraigg Brathwaite ended the match by hitting two consecutive sixes. He was 35 not out, the highest score of the match.

Earlier, Keiron Joseph made the top-score of 20, including three fours in one over, for Trinidad and Tobago, while Barbados fast bowler Jerome Stuart had three wickets for 15 runs and spinner Craig St Hill took three for eight off four overs.

The final match of the limited-over series will be played tomorrow at the Wanderers Cricket Club, and the three-day ‘Test’ match for the Inshan Ali Trophy starts on Thursday at Empire Cricket Club.

Barbados on Saturday had an easy win by six wickets against Trinidad and Tobago in the opening match of the Inshan Ali Memorial Trophy limited overs cricket series.

Playing at Dover Cricket Club, Barbados dismissed Trinidad and Tobago for 61 and then raced to the target at 62 for the loss of four wickets in 16.5 overs.

On a slow pitch, Barbados used four fast bowlers, who all bowled well.

They were led by Jerome Stuart, who took four wickets from eight successive overs using the new ball.

When Barbados batted, captain Anthony Alleyne hit a breezy 31 as his side easily overhauled their target.

"All in all, we the coaches are happy with the performance of the youngsters. They were very outstanding in the field. The bowlers bowled a good steady line and we had a fairly useful start from the batsmen," said George Linton, the Barbados head coach.
