‘Sandfly’ tops Super Singles t-tennis

He got the better of a field of players in the final six play-offs which included defending champion Reeza Burke at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo.

The Solo Crusaders player ended the round-robin tournament unbeaten in the RMSL sponsored table tennis championship.

Guyana’s Matthew Khan secured the runner-up position after he lost only to Brown in the five matches that he played. The Guyanese number one also had a good tournament, disposing of a number of this country’s top players.

Courtney Pugh would also have been satisfied with his performance in the play-off as he finished third.

His lost to Brown and Khan was the only blot in his book in the competition, but it would have been enough to prepare him for what is expected to be a big 2006 season.

The tournament’s defending champion Burke could only finish fourth in the competition but still remains the top ranked player on the national circuit.

Burke was defeated by Brown, Khan and Pugh but has maintained his position on the men’s ranking after a year which saw the Arima Hawks champion open up a huge gap on his counterparts.

Curtis Humphrey the D’Abadie Youth Club player, won just one match in the tournament and lost four, for his fifth place finish.

He had earlier claimed the Youth National Championship a few months ago and would have been satisfied with the preparation he got more than the result itself.

Fiaz Mohammed of the Petrotrin Trinmar Operations played winless throughout the competition and finished bottom of the six-player chart.
