TT women thrash defending champs
TRINIDAD and Tobago cricketers gave a fine all-round performance to thrash title-holders St Vincent and the Grenadines by a huge 103 runs, while Jamaica beat Guyana in round two action of the Women’s Under-23 Championship yesterday. Batting first at Gilbert Park in California, TT posted an imposing 173 for eight from their allotted 40 overs with Stacy King hitting an unbeaten 42, including four fours and one six. Lee-Ann Kirby with a solid 34 and an enterprising 27 from Maurissa Aguillera helped the hosts to their eventual score. Jennifer Charles was the leading bowler for the Vincentians with figures of four for 20 from eight overs while spinners Kellone Peters grabbed two for 28 and Terisha Lavia, two for 39. In reply, the defending champions were bundled out for 68 in 26 overs with leg-spinner Jade Chadee being the main destroyer with the excellent figures of five for 21 from six overs. Kirby picked up two for 11 for a good all-round performance while Jadee was named "Player-of-the-Match." AT PREYSAL, Jamaica registered an exciting one-wicket win over Guyana in a contest which was affected by rain. Guyana batted first and was dismissed for 56 in 32.1 overs with no batsman reaching double figures. Jodi-Ann Morgan (3-9) and Chadeen Nation (3-11) were the top bowlers for Jamaica. In response, Jamaica scraped home with two balls to spare with Stephanie Taylor hitting 17 and Cadeth Kidd, 15 not out. Annabelle Lewis was Guyana’s best bowler with three for 10. AT MONROE ROAD, Barbados scored a 76-run win over a West Indies Developmental team after batting first and reaching 120 for nine in 40 overs and dismissing the Developmental team for 44. The Developmental team failed to cope with the bowling of Cherise Callender who grabbed four for seven to earn the "Player-of-the-Match" award. Today, the Developmental team will take on St Vincent at Munroe Road, Barbados and Jamaica will clash at Gilbert Park while TT and Guyana will meet at Preysal.
