US crime expert visits Beetham murder scene

IN ORDER to get the feel of a local crime scene, US consultant and special advisor to the TT Police Service, Prof Stephen Mastrofsky, was on the scene of this country’s 363th murder with his assistant professor King, and Federal Bureau of Investigations’ detective Nick yesterday evening.

The murder victim was unemployed Beetham Gardens’ resident Rodney Brown.

According to reports, Brown, 25, of Main Street, Phrase Four, Beetham Gardens, was on his way to visit a friend at 4.15 pm, when he was confronted by a gunman, who started shooting.

Brown tried to run away, but collapsed about 200 yards away where he died.

Dr Boochay visited the scene and ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre for an autopsy today. Brown was shot five times in the chest, hands and other parts of the body.

When Newsday visited the scene, Cpl Lloyd Brown, father of the deceased, a soldier, said his son had recently confessed that men in the area wanted to kill him, but did not disclose why. The father also claimed, "My son was a cool guy who was like any other average youth in the area."

The dead man’s mother, Christine Gibson, called for justice.

Police believe the killing was drug-related. Visiting the scene were ASPs Rodriguez, Sealy, Hansraj, Insp Boyce, Sgt Stewart, Cpl Charles, the three Mastrofsky committee members, and Sgts McIntyre and Pantin of the Homicide Bureau.
