Women cricketers beat Guyana


TRINIDAD AND Tobago eked out a two-wicket win over Guyana, their second straight triumph in the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Under-23 Women’s Cricket Tournament yesterday.


At the Inshan Ali Park, Preysal, the Guyanese were restricted to 100 runs for six wickets off their alloted 40 overs, with June Ogle topscoring with 25 while Gaitree Seetahal, Kirby-Ann Alexander and Lee-Ann Kirby claiming a wicket apiece.


The TT team were under pressure by a brave effort from their opponents, with Candacy Atkins collecting three wickets for 21 runs.


But Maurissa Aguillera held firm until the end, earning the ‘Player of the Match’ award for her unbeaten 35, while Devika Singh chipped in with 32.


Also in winners’ row yesterday were Barbados, by 50 runs over Jamaica at Gilbert Park in Couva, and St Vincent, by two wickets over the WI Developmental XI at Munroe Road in Cunupia.


The tournament continues tomorrow.
