Homer breaks swim records
CHRISTIAN HOMER set two national records as the annual Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago (ASATT) Invitational Meet began at the Marlins Swim Club, Westmoorings on Thursday. The 12-year-old from Stingrays club created a new mark in the Boys 11-12 50-metre backstroke in 30.26 seconds, nearly a second better than Cadell Lyons’ 31.03 time which was set in August. Lyons, of Barracudas, also set a personal best time of 31.01 as he finished second, while Christopher Buffon of Tidal Wave (32.73) was third. Homer and Lyons were again one-two in the 200m butterfly, with Homer touching the wall in two minutes 25.08 seconds, lowering the previous time of Franz Huggins (2:25.71) which he set in 1992. Lyons followed in 2:44.11 while Warren Kellman (2:52.62) took bronze. Homer also pocketed one more gold, in the 400m freestyle, clocking 4:40.84, with Buffon (4:42.08) taking silver and Justin Babb of Pirates (4:57.53) bronze.
