Chaguanas man in court for $3.5M coke

A 32-year-old Chaguanas man appeared before a Port-of-Spain magistrate yesterday charged with possession of $3.5 million worth of cocaine. Kayam Mohammed appeared before Magistrate Avason Quinlan in the Port-of-Spain Four B Court where the indictable charge was read to him. The cocaine reportedly weighed an estimated 7.788 kilos.

Mohammed, who was unrepresented, was also charged with possession of a pistol and 12 rounds of ammunition. Mohammed, of Peters Field, Chaguanas, was allegedly held with the illegal substance last Friday after it was found in his vehicle by police officers at the Valpark Shopping Plaza. Police prosecutor, Cpl Stanley Joseph, told the magistrate there was no tracing available for Mohammed, who, according to investigating officers, had only one previous court matter which was dismissed. Quinlan transferred the matter to the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court where Mohammed will reappear tomorrow.
