Hairdresser’s bail reduced
HAIRDRESSER Abigail Friday-Teller, charged with trafficking of 1.24 kilogrammes of cocaine allegedly contained in capsules, secured a reduction in bail yesterday when she reappeared before a San Fernando magistrate. Three weeks ago, Friday-Teller, 36, of Corinth Settlement, Ste Madeleine, was granted bail of $.5 million. However, the hairdresser remained in custody because no one secured the bail which was ordered by magistrate Armina Deonarinesingh to be approved with two sureties. Friday-Teller’s attorney Ian Gray had asked Deonarinesingh to consider reducing the bail on the ground that it was “highly impossible” for family members to secure the $.5 million with two sureties.
When the matter came up for hearing yesterday, Friday-Teller, a mother of three, reappeared before Deonarinesingh in the Second Magistrates’ Court. Gray was absent from court, but Friday-Teller told Deonarinesingh that family members were unable to secure her bail because of the “large amount.” When asked by the magistrate if there were family members in court, the accused hairdresser replied that her teenage children were present. The court’s police prosecutor, Sgt Wendell Fernando, said that the prosecution had no objection to a reduction in bail. Deonarinesingh reduced Friday-Teller’s bail to $250,000. She will reappear in court on Friday.
