Ganga, Bravo head trial squads

DAREN GANGA and Dwayne Bravo will be leading two respective teams at a four-day practice match at the Sir Frank Worrell Grounds, University of the West Indies (UWI) St Augustine campus from December 28-31. The match will be another chance for the national players to remind the selection panel of their value, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s Carib Beer Cricket Series 2005/2006 contest against Jamaica on January 6. But West Indies players Brian Lara and Dinesh Ramdin, who were not included in either team, are expected to return to national duty for the January 6-9 contest at Wilson Road, Penal.

According to Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) secretary Forbes Persaud, Lara, Ramdin and Bravo are all expected to be in the Trinidad and Tobago team for the next two matches. Trinidad and Tobago face Jamaica and then Guyana, before the WI tour of New Zealand in February. Ganga’s XI includes West Indies one-day “specialist” Ricardo Powell, former youth team players Tishan Maraj and Lendl Simmons and present West Indies Under-19 spinners Sunil Narine and Rishi Bachan. Bravo’s team will feature ex-WI bowlers Mervyn Dillon and Dave Mohammed, WI “A” team all-rounder Richard Kelly and regional youth team players William Perkins and Kieron Pollard. First ball will be delivered at 10 am on December 28 while action on the following days begin at 9.30 am.
