Millionaire held for Nigel’s murder

A PROMINENT millionaire businessman in south Trinidad, and his son, were arrested yesterday in connection with the murder of Nigel Allen whose body was discovered in a shallow grave in a canefield on Monday. Up to late yesterday, the businessman and his son were being questioned by detectives at the Homicide Bureau South Office in San Fernando. Two other men who were held in the wake of Allen’s murder, also remained in police custody yesterday.


The businessman and his son were arrested around 10 am at their Claxton Bay home by detectives of the South Homicide Bureau. The two, sources said, were interrogated for several hours. Allen, 36, a mechanic of Cocoyea Village went missing on December 7, after telling relatives he was going to meet a man named “Cat” in Diamond Village, Claxton Bay, to collect money. Allen’s decomposed body was discovered in a shallow grave in Diamond Village, 13 days after he went missing. An autopsy which was carried out on the body revealed Allen was strangled and also stabbed four times in the chest.  Police investigators confirmed that a report on their investigations were submitted yesterday afternoon to Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
