Mother and son beaten and robbed

A ROUSILLAC businessman and his 76-year-old mother were beaten by cutlass-wielding bandits and robbed of $35,000 in cash at their home on Thursday night. Martin Singh, 42, and his mother, Agnes Timothy, were yesterday warded at San Fernando General Hospital in a stable condition. According to a police report, Timothy was awaiting the arrival of Singh, who is the proprietor of M & S One Stop Shop, in the verandah of her Southern Main Road, Aripero Village home at 9.30 pm. The businessplace is located a few houses away from the home and, according to the report, two men pushed open the front gate and ran upstairs where they confronted Timothy. 


The report stated that Timothy was questioned by the men about Singh’s arrival, but when the woman refused to divulge information, she was dealt several slaps and cuffs about the body. Timothy was also choked, police said. The men waited in the house until Singh arrived. The police report stated that the men planassed him about the head and body then snatched a bag with $35,000. The men escaped on foot. Singh and Timothy were both taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where they were treated and warded. PC Ragoonauth of the Oropouche Police Station is investigating.
