Sea Lots man shot dead

A 20-year-old man was shot dead by a man who was playing with a gun at Sea Lots on Thursday night. Police reports revealed that Denver Alexander, of Production Drive, Sea Lots, was liming at a wooden shed near his home with friends when a gun was fired at 11 pm on Thursday. Alexander was struck in the head by a bullet and slumped to the ground. Officers of the Besson Street Police Station were contacted and went to the scene. When officers arrived on the scene, they were told that the suspect was playing with a gun which went off, causing Alexander to be hit. An unsuccessful search was carried out for the gunman.

When Newsday visited the scene of the killing, Elizabeth Alexander, the dead man’s mother, insisted that her son had been murdered. She said he never smoked or drank alcohol, and was not involved in gang-related activities. The weeping woman said she was convinced that her son was killed in cold blood, refusing to believe that a gun had accidentally been discharged. Alexander said her son worked on a ship and always provided her with cash when he was paid. She added that this Christmas will be very sad for her, since it will be the day when she will bury her son. She is calling for swift justice in the matter and is calling on the police to find the person who killed her son. Officers of the Besson Street Police Station are investigating.
