Training camp for Under-21s

THE Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation will stage stage a training camp at the Dr Joao Havelange Centre of Excellence for overseas and home-based Under-21 players. The camp is from December 28 to 30  and has been finalised by the Technical Department of the TTFF under Technical Director Lincoln Phillips. Some 20 players based in TT will join up with others from the United States and England for the three-day camp which will involve sessions at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya and the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva. The Under-21 training camp is part of the GOAL 2014 Project, an initiative from Phillips with an  aim to have national football teams qualify for every FIFA tournament by the year 2014. Phillips also stated the important role of establishing a worldwide network that can assist the TTFF in identifying youth and senior players.

Credit was given to the www.socawarriors.net website which assisted in providing a list of players based in the USA, eligible of playing for TT, as well as other resources in the United Kingdom. “It’s excellent that we can have other people assisting us because at the end of the day we all want what is best for football in Trinidad and Tobago. We have the raw material and it’s now up to us to turn it into something that we can proudly display also bringing us rewards at the end of the day,” Phillips said yesterday. “We have a number of good players attending colleges in the US who return home for the holiday break. Their return presents a wonderful opportunity to identify, evaluate, and track the progress of players based in TT and abroad who can represent Trinidad and Tobago in the qualifying phases of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games and eventually the Olympics themselves,” Phillips added. Phillips can be contacted at telephone number 789-9366 by other interested players.
