Last minute shoppers in town

Although most of Trinidad and Tobago had packed up shop in order to spend Christmas Day at home with their families, a number of vendors hit the streets of Port-of-Spain to catch the last minute shoppers. While police looked on, clothes, fruits, footwear and toys were sold at Independence Square, Queen, Henry and Charlotte Streets. The vendors told Newsday that while they would have preferred to be enjoying the day with their loved ones at home, the reality was that they had families to feed and every cent counted. Some of the last minute shoppers said they were grateful that the vendors chose to come out to sell on the holiday, because there were items that they (the shoppers) may have forgotten or did not have the time to buy before yesterday.
