Truck driver held for murder
A TRUCK driver remained in police custody yesterday after he surrendered to police following an altercation with another man in Point Fortin over a piece of land, which ended in murder. The incident occurred at Roberts Lane, Cap-de-Ville, on Friday in which Martin Francis, 30, died after he was slashed across the chest. Police said the dispute had been an ongoing feud between Francis and the truck driver.
A police report stated that around 9 am, Francis and the truck driver got into an argument over boundaries to their land. The argument escalated into violence and Francis was slashed with a knife. He was taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital for treatment and then transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital where he subsequently died. Charges are expected to be laid against the suspect tomorrow pending the results of an autopsy and directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
