Dry season early in Santa Cruz
RESIDENTS of Upper Sam Boucaud, Santa Cruz, have been without water for almost two months now. The frustrated residents said they have been calling the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) to get a pipeborne supply, but to no avail. The residents said they were without water for the Christmas season, and had to depend on the Fire Services to deliver a truckborne supply as WASA contract workers refused to deliver. One resident said that in order to wash her clothes, she must lift buckets of water from down a hill to her home which is located at the top of the hill. “We have to use the water very sparingly, even when we are bathing, as we don’t know where the next drop is coming from,” she added. She also told Newsday that WASA contractors who bring water insist that villagers pay for the delivery, which is supposed to be free of charge. Attempts to contact WASA’s Corporate Communications Department yesterday proved futile.
