Man shot twice in two days

A man of Trou Macaque Road, Laventille, who was shot on New Year’s Day and who discharged himself from the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, was shot for the second time on Monday night and is now in a critical condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

Hayden Phillip, 21, underwent emergency surgery on Monday night and was fighting to stay alive at hospital.

The bullet which was fired at him in a drive-by shooting struck him in the neck and exited through his right ear.

He is scheduled to have follow-up surgery shortly.

Phillip’s relatives told Newsday they have no idea why he has been targetted by killers.

According to police reports, Phillip was in a shed at the corner of Pashley Street, Laventille, at 9.15 am on Sunday, when he was approached by a man who asked him to leave the shed.

Phillip refused and was shot in the left thigh. He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was treated and warded.

On Sunday night, Phillip discharged himself from the Port-of-Spain General Hospital and went to his Trou Macaque Road home in Laventille where he was treated by his mother Sharon Cummings. Reports revealed that Cummings heard a loud explosion outside her home at 8.15 pm on Monday, and on checking saw Phillip lying in a pool of blood.

An eyewitness claimed he was shot in the neck by a gunman who was in the front passenger seat of a car.

Phillip was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he underwent surgery.

Police investigators believe Phillip was shot for the second time by the same man who shot him in the left thigh on Sunday.

A suspect is being sought in connection with both shootings.
