Morvant man in court for murder of guard


A 29-year-old man appeared at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with 13 offences, including two counts of murder and attempted murder.


Quincy Samuel of Upper Geranium Drive, Coconut Drive, Morvant, appeared before Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicolls in the Eighth Magistrates’ Court.


The charge of murder was laid indictably against Samuel, who is accused of killing security guard Esan Faria on December 29 at Poinsettia Drive, Morvant. The complainant, Sgt Stanley Ramdeen of Homicide Bureau, laid the charges of murder, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm to endanger life, possession of ammunition to endanger life and three counts of shooting with intent.


In a separate incident, Samuel was charged with attempting to murder 21-year-old Casey Garnes on December 20 at Upper Geranium Drive, Coconut Drive, Morvant. Garnes was shot three times in the head and is still hospitalised at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital in a critical condition.


The complainant Cpl Francis Vidal of the Morvant Police Station charged Samuel with attempted murder, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a firearm to endanger life and possession of ammunition to endanger life.


Samuel was remanded into custody and will reappear on January 13.
