Three more gunned down

Two men were shot dead on Monday night in separate incidents at East Dry River and Jasper Avenue, Diego Martin, and another in Morvant yesterday, making it four persons already murdered during the first three days of the new year.

Reports revealed that Jasper Avenue residents saw Helmut Daniel, 48, staggering with two gunshot wounds in the back at 7 pm.

A resident called out to Daniel, but he collapsed and died.

Officers of the West End Police Station went to the scene along with a district medical officer. The body was viewed and ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre.

Daniel lived alone in a humble wooden shack up a hill at Jones Trace, Diego Martin. He was described by neighbours as a miserable person who was marked for death. Police investigators believe Daniel was killed by someone with whom he had a dispute.

The second murder of the night occurred at 8.50 pm, when murder victim number three for the year, Marvin Ragguette, 27, of Jackson Hill, East Dry River, was executed at his apartment. According to reports, Ragguette responded to a knock on the door at his apartment. As he opened the door, he was greeted by a lone gunman who shot him four times in the head at point blank range. Ragguette slumped to the ground and died.

His body was viewed by a district medical officer and ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre.

Police investigators described Ragguette as a suspect in several shootings, who was also a member of a gang.

Officers of the Besson Street Police Station are investigating.

The fourth murder victim for the year was Anthony Clement, 46, of Laventille Extension Road, Morvant. According to reports, Clement of Pitch Road, Morvant, was walking through a track when shots rang out at 6.45 pm.

When residents investigated they found the dead man with a bullet wound in the chest.
