2 back in court for Rattan’s murder
The two men charged with the murder of 18-year-old medical student Mark Rattan reappeared at the Tunapuna Magistrates’ Court yesterday. Keith Bryan Thomas, 18, of Spring Valley, Mt D’or, Champs Fleurs; and Christopher James, 19, of Building 12, Maloney Gardens, appeared before Magistrate Alvin Daniel in the First Court. Thomas appeared unrepresented while James was represented by Senior Counsel Theodore Guerra. Guerra told the magistrate that he would like anything previously said by his client, while not in the presence of a lawyer, to be refuted. "The same privilege that rich people get in this country, I am asking for the same treatment of poor people. Poor people should have justice as well," said Guerra. Thomas and James are charged with the alleged murder of Mark Rattan, who was abducted on December 26 by two men outside a Royal Castle outlet in Curepe. His body was found later near the Caura Hospital in a drain. The matter was adjourned to January 11.
