Karate honours for Williams, Carrera

THE TRINIDAD and Tobago Karate Alliance (TTKA) have announced their choices for their individuals for 2005.

And their decision was to award to persons because of their vast contributions as martial artists.

The first is Curtis Carrera. He is recognised for his efforts and successes in guiding the new instructors who joined TTKA in the past year.

This was announced recently by Keshni Sookram, Secretary-General of the TTKA which is based in Pasea, Tunapuna.

Carrera also gave his time and expertise free of charge to help prepare them for exams this year.

He also donated the same for many members who could not afford the fees for training and uniforms.

Some of his students occupied first and second places in the TTKU National and regional events after competing for the first time.

This is a first for any TT karate instructor. One was only a white belt and defeated black belts in Trinidad and Curacao.

The second is Darryl Williams.

He was awarded the title in 2004 and again last year.

Like Carrera, his unselfish rendering of his expertise and experience was a major factor in advancing the TTKA to international status last year.

He was most instrumental in puting the application together which got TTKA accepted in the prestigous World Union of Karate-Do Organisations (WUKO).

Williams also assisted with TTKA international branches in New York, London and Ontario.

Finally, Williams was been appointed a confirmed member of the TTKA-Technical Committee (TTKA-DC) and will be on the examination commitee for 2006. This year he is expected to be in Japan for special training with world class instructors from the Japan Karate Federation (JKF).

With TTKA’s new position in WUKO, we are inviting all karate clubs to join and help guide local karate in a positive direction.

TTKA would be participating in WUKO Pan American Championships in Brazil this year and

thhe TTKA special training and Black Belt exams would be in March 2 in Trinidad.

Holders of all TTKA Dan ranks can have them homologated by WUKO.
