Koury matter put off again
The preliminary inquiry into the murder of Dr Eddie Koury was adjourned to January 17, as the State prosecutors were absent from the hearing. All five murder accused in the inquiry were yesterday taken to the Tunapuna Magistrates’ First Court before Magistrate Alvin Daniel. They are Kaleb Neville-Donaldson of Rockley Vale, Tobago; Sean James of Kelly Street, Tunapuna; Jerome Murray of Mason Hall, Tobago; former police officer Robert Franklyn of Laventille, and Terry Moore of Tobago. Daniel was informed by court prosecutor Cpl Alexander that State prosecutor Karl Hudson-Phillips QC was not present, nor was attorney Brent Winter who would usually hold for the State in his absence. Daniel then proceeded to adjourn the matter to ensure that all five accused will be present on the next given date. While confirming the date with the five accused, James’ answers stirred the magistrate’s ire. Daniel warned James roughly, "Listen to me, there are no rankers inside of here. I am the only ranker and I do not want any attitude in here from you." James, Franklyn and Moore appeared unrepresented while Donaldson’s attorney Pamela Elder SC was not in court. Murray said his attorney was Patrick Godson-Phillip, who was also notably absent from the hearing. All five men are accused of the murder of Dr Eddie Koury, who was snatched from his workplace in Macoya. His body was found days later.
