Bakr conspiracy matter adjourned
Leader of the Jamaat Al Muslimeen, Imam Yasin Abu Bakr, sought an adjournment yesterday to retain an attorney to represent him on a charge of conspiracy to murder. Bakr asked for the adjournment when his matter came up on a “cause list” before Justice Prakash Moosai in the Port-of-Spain First Criminal Court. At this hearing, the judge will hear from prosecution and defence to determine if the matter is ready for trial, and if so set a date.
Bakr and David “Buffy” Millard are charged with conspiracy to murder Salim Rasheed and Zaki Aubidah on June 4, 2003, at Citrine Drive, Diamond Vale, Diego Martin. The State was represented by Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson. Bakr said that he had only received notice of the fresh indictment at the end of November 2005, and the time was insufficient to retain an attorney. He asked for a reasonable adjournment so that he could so do. The matter was adjourned to the February 16, cause list.
