Black Friday killing in Morvant

A Morvant family yesterday went through a Black Friday horror story, when Lisa Sammy, 17, was shot dead by a relative who was playing with a gun.

According to reports, Sammy was at their Mon Repos home in Morvant with two other relatives at 11.30 am, when another relative came in with a gun. While showing off the gun, it accidentally discharged. When the relative looked up he saw Lisa bleeding from the mouth.

When the Emergency Health Services (EHS) arrived on the scene, they realised the teen was already dead.

The district medical officer ordered the body taken to the Forensic Science Centre for an autopsy yesterday, which confirmed Sammy had been shot in the face.

Investigations revealed that Sammy, a Canadian citizen, came to TT five years ago and was expected to return to the land of her birth shortly.

This is the fourth tragedy the dead teen’s family has experienced in three years.

The victim’s mother died last December, while her sister and father both died in 2004.

A 19-year-old relative is currently assisting police with the investigation. Meanwhile, police are searching for the firearm used in the killing.

Visiting the scene were Supt Trim, Insp Hilaire and PC DeSilva, and Sgt Frederick of the Homicide Bureau who is continuing investigations.
