Guyana comfortably placed

GUYANA were comfortably placed yesterday on 257 for four wickets after the first day’s play against Trinidad and Tobago in a crucial Carib Beer Series match at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.

The visitors were given a solid foundation by newly appointed vice-captain of the West indies team Ramnaresh Sarwan who was unbeaten on 113 at the close of play.

Sarwan made a welcome return to form hitting 15 fours on a good batting wicket and was well-supported by his captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul who made 44.

Chanderpaul was named captain of the regional Test team earlier this week for the upcoming tour of New Zealand.

For Trinidad and Tobago Dwayne Bravo, Rajiv Gooljar, Dave Mohammed and Rayad Emrit took one wicket each after Daren Ganga won the toss and inserted the Guyanese.

The four-day match continues today from 10 am.
