Merryboys, Preysal win in Carib Sunday League
A SPLENDID 52 not out by hard hitting Lincoln Roberts spearheaded Ceramic Merryboys to victory in their opening Group ‘A’ match of the Carib Sunday League Limited Overs Competition at Couva Junior Secondary School ground, yesterday. First, fastbowler Ryan Best claimed three wickets for 15 runs and Dale Douglas completed the demolition job taking two wickets for 14 runs, as Merryboys routed Couva Sports for just 104 in 39 overs. In response, Roberts took over in his familiar aggressive style on the Couva Sports bowling, guiding his team to 105 for three wickets. Mario Belcon supported with an impressive 42 as they sent a warning to their next opponents Joe Public Munroe Road next week. In another Group ‘A’ encounter at Wilson Road, rain washed out play with the home team FCB Clarke Road United well poised after reaching 159 for four wickets, with a well played unbeaten 44 by Hoomchan Pooran against Joe Public Munroe Road. Ryerson Bagoo contributed 39 not out in the Clarke Road score, while youth star Adrian Barath made 32 before the rains came, but not before. Rain also wreaked havoc at Syne Village, where defending champions Powergen faced Endeavour in Group ‘B.’ Powergen reached 162 for seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs, with Amit Mohammed making 26. Endeavour were in deep trouble on 12 for two wickets when the rains came tumbling down. In Group ‘C’ action, CLICO Preysal also got the better of the powerful Alescon Comets at the Inshan Ali Park, Preysal. Man of the Match Amit Jaggernauth claimed four wickets for 16 runs as Comets were skittled for a paltry 71. CLICO Preysal rsponded boldy knocking off the reqwuired target led by Satish Naidoo with 46.
